Perception and Action in biological (human and non-human) and artificial systems includes the study of vision, audition, motor control, navigation, and the coordination of perception and action, in real and virtual environments.
Language and Communication looks at formal, computational, behavioral, and neural bases of language and communication. It includes the formal structure of language to understand how information from different sources is rapidly coordinated and how breakdowns in these processes lead to language deficits.
Learning and Memory looks at behavioral, computational, and neural bases or learning, short- and long-term memory, problem solving, and decision making. It includes the study of the effects of aging, neural disorders, and psychopathy on higher mental functioning.
Cognitive Neuroscience looks at the neural bases of cognition and intelligent behavior. Research in this area draws on cutting-edge brain imaging techniques including functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and makes contact with other interdisciplinary strengths on campus.
