Funding:
There are two levels of gradate student participation in the program. These differ in the extent to which students complete the various elements of the training program, as well as in the level of funding for which they are eligible. In both cases students must be accepted by an MSU Cognitive Science
department and the Cognitive Science Program, and sponsored by a
faculty member in the Cognitive Science Program.
- IGERT Trainees:
IGERT Trainees receive 5 years of full support, including a graduate stipend, tuition waiver, and health benefits. Trainees are eligible to apply for research and travel funds to supplement resources available through their home departments and their advisors' labs. Two years of stipend support will come from the IGERT grant itself, with the remaining years supplied by funds from other sources including university fellowships, departmental teaching assistantships, and faculty research grants. Note that NSF traineeship support is available only to US citizens. Non-citizens who wish to participate in the program can do so via these other funding sources.
- Elibibility:
IGERT Trainees must be accepted into the Interdepartmental Graduate Specialization in Cognitive Science and must be sponsored by one of the seven core IGERT investigators listed here. IGERT Trainees are expected to complete the entire IGERT program of study.
- IGERT Associates:
IGERT Associates initially receive one year of support, including a graduate stipend, tuition waiver, and health benefits, and are eligible to apply for a second year of support. Associates can also apply for supplementary research and travel funds.
- Elibibility:
IGERT Associates must be accepted into the Interdepartmental Graduate Specialization in Cognitive Science and must be sponsored by a member of the faculty of the Cognitive Science Program. Associates are expected to enroll in at least one IGERT core course and to attend the weekly scientific meetings of the IGERT group. IGERT Associates seeking a second year of funding must also enroll in the second IGERT core course.
